Easy GDR Creator (download here) 2. Font Remover (download here) Step 1 - Create the font Note that this is 100% legal since you don`t alter the firmware and this is an old "trick" known from the Psion days. Although this has been tested and is normally reversible, the author of this tutorial does not take any responsibility for any damages caused to your phone because of your actions. Before doing anything, make a backup of your C: drive with Siemens Data Suite or MPM and then install FontRemover.sis. This little tool will help you to restore the default fonts. You can convert any truetype font to an epoc font (.gdr) and use it on your SX1 to replace the current fonts. This conversion can be done with the Easy GDR Creator. Run Easy GDR Creator. Some of the text on the window does not appear right because its written in Hebrew or Arabic (?) so pcs without Hebrew or Arabic fonts display it as ????? marks. There are 5 tabs on the window. For each of these tabs you need to open and load a font (doesn`t matter if it`s the same for all). To open a font, click the first button with the 5 ? marks (check picture below). Now click the second button (with the 6 question marks) to load it. After a couple of seconds the font will appear on the "Preview frame" below. If the size is small or big you can change it through the "Size" list under "TTF Detail". Note that you need to press the load button (the second one) again for the font to be updated. When you have finished with all the five tabs, click "Compile to GDR" and save it. Now it`s ready to be copied to your SX1. Step 2 - Enable the font First, you must set your phone language to English. If you don`t do that, your phone will freeze on the booting screen and won`t boot. The only way out then is hard reset (holding # and * and turning it on) which will delete all your data (always keep backups!). Enabling the font is as easy as creating it. All you have to do is to create a folder on your SX1 named "fonts" under C:\System\ and put the .gdr file you just created, there. Restart the phone and voila! Your fonts have changed. In case you want your old fonts back, run FontRemover you installed before going through all this and restart. Here are some pics of my SX1 with changed fonts. (By the way, if you like them, download my .gdr file here) Posted by ZeeM on 07 Jan 2005 :: Viewed 14825 times :: Back to Knowledge base
